Great Exploits can be accomplished in Unity~ The definition of Unity is simply having continuity in purpose or action. Psalm 133:1 says, "Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!" (New King James Version). Unity is the glue in the body of Christ that allows us to be one. Even with all the differences... different perspectives, races, experiences, denominations, worship practices... we can celebrate these differences and still work together.
The three key components associated with unity are: agreement, harmony and oneness.
Many of my friends, church, and family have struggled recently in their lives. Maybe you too have been laid off from work, your world may seem ready to explode, and your body may be racked with pain. Maybe you see no relief in sight.
There is relief in sight through God's Word. There is a Word about overcoming the tough seasons of your life. In fact, these biblical principles have helped me come through my own trials.
This week we observe Valentines Day. The vast majority of us will use it as an opportunity to do what we should all do more often anyway... to tell and show the people we love how we feel about them.
Throughout history, the love of a man for a woman (or vice-versa) has inspired us to reach for the heights of our creative abilities in search of a way to express that love. Look at all of the songs that have been written, the words that have been penned, even the monuments that have been erected. In like manner, man has gone to great lengths throughout history to express praise, adoration and love to God. But all of our efforts seem to fall short of the mark. While we can find words to express human love, we find it hard to comprehend, much less express or return the agape love of God.
Entering into this new year, I'd like to encourage you to get out a pad and pen and measure your accomplishments against the assignments God gave you for 2008. Take a moment to reflect on your accomplishments as well as state why you weren't as successful in others as you would have liked to be in 2008.
To truly pursue a New Beginning in God this year, you may need to take back control of your life beginning with the external forces you have allowed within your personal space.
Identify your time wasters - any activities or persons - that don't add to your life but subtracts the life out of you.
