Love Or Selfishness Print E-mail
Pastoral Staff Blogs - Pastor Perry's Blog
Written by Pastor Perry

Throughout our message series "4 Weeks To Live", God has really changed my perspective in the areas of 'what really matters' and 'LOVE'.

I have come to the conclusion that people will walk in either Love or Selfishness. A person chooses to walk in one or the other every day. What many people call love really isn't love at all. Real love - which is agape love, or the God kind of love - is unconditional, limitless, selfless and is not based on emotions. It is extremely tolerant. Unfortunately, many operate in selfishness. They live in human, emotional love, which has limits, is conditional, requires pre-qualification and has to be loved before it can love. Selfishness is the root of all sin, which is based in fear. As a result, our society is experiencing a tremendous amount of lawlessness, perversion and sin.

It's important that we pay close attention to timing of events that occur in our lives. We shouldn't allow time to float by or to let things just happen. For those with a destination in mind, you have to understand the value of providential moments. We serve a God with a purpose. He uses providential moments to effect and or change our current paths permanently if we are obedient. As we get closer to the end of this year of trying times, economic challenges and multiple job losses, it's imperative that we draw even closer to God.

  1. They fear rejection
  2. They feel embarrassed
  3. They resent control by hostile people
  4. They don't like facing any negative feelings

Everyone, including leaders, needs accountability through their relationships. Accountability is not something we need just when we're young Christians; accountability is for everyone. Accountability is a powerful tool that can launch many of us into the fullness God has for each of us.

Serving Others Print E-mail

"Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms." - 1 Peter 4:10

God's law commands that we love others as we love ourselves. This stresses the value and priority we should place on "other people." One way to love on others with the love of God is to serve them. Jesus spent His precious time on the earth loving and serving people. His purpose was the Ultimate Sacrifice, which was in fact the Ultimate Act of Servanthood. It's hard to shut people out and love them at the same time. When we serve others, we serve God.
