Passion For God's Word Print E-mail
Pastoral Staff Blogs - Pastor Joey's Blog
Written by Pastor Joey

I was recently thinking about the word PASSION and what it really means. Webster's defines passion as: "Powerful emotion; strong Love." God was challenging me to have a PASSION for the Word of God. It is easy sometimes to roll through devotions just so I can tell God that I did them. I came across this story in my daily devotions and it messed me up. So here's the story...

In his book "the wonders of the word of God" evangelist Robert L. Sumner tells the story of a new Christian who lost his eyesight and both hands in an explosion.

One of the man's greatest disappointments was that he could no longer read the Bible. Then he heard about a woman in England who read Braille with her lips. Hoping he could do the same, the man sent for some books of the Bible in Braille, but he was bitterly disappointed to find that the explosion had also damaged the nerve endings in his lips.

One day, as he brought one of the Braille pages to his lips, his tongue touched a few of the Braille characters, and he realized that he could use his tongue to read the Bible. By the time Sumner wrote his book, the man had read the Bible four times! What a passion for the Bible!

After I read this story, I prayed that I would have that kind of passion for his word. So, the next time you go through the motions, take a second and think of this story and it will help you. I know it has me. The Bible contains everything you need for living a victorious, powerful life of faith. If you have a passion for that kind of life, you will need a passion for God's Word.

Thanks for the encouragement in this blog. We many times wonder why things in life don't go smoother for us. If we'll be honest, it's because we haven't made God THE priority in our lives via times with Him, and others, in the word, in worship, etc...
I hope to bring a sharper focus to this in my new role. It's my hope that we can help the people not be overwhelmed with all that's at their disposal by showing them HOW to go after these various spiritual disciplines.

...only as I'm quiet and listening.. pondering my God's presence... seeking His guidence... drawing me to what He has to say... longing to communicate with Him, God's word becomes alive in me... joy and purpose pour over my soul... no greater treasure than God's word for us to have and give to others... what a mighty and wondrous God we serve!
